My second month of blogging is in the books! Month two was much better than month one. Not only were my stats significantly better but I feel like I have started to figure out some things on my site that I have been able to tweak and make better. I still have a long ways to go but I really like how things are going so far.
Overall, I am pleased with how things are progressing. I am not having extraordinary results by any means but I have taken a long-term approach to this blog from the beginning. My goal is to get incrementally better every month and so far these reports have helped keep me accountable.
For me, the biggest victory for this second month was that I was able to keep things going and moving despite traveling a fair amount for work and pleasure.
There was a two-week stretch at the beginning of February where I was pretty much traveling non-stop. Although I did have some time in my hotel room to work on the blog there were a lot of distractions and it was tough to continue to put out thoughtful material. My traffic was noticeably less during that two-week stretch.
I was also able to get one more affiliate link up and going. When I first started my blog I used a free theme. Blah! That was short-lived. I hated the way it looked and it was extremely hard to customize, especially for a newbie. I ended up going through StudioPress to get a theme that I love. Yes, it cost me some money but you have to invest in your business if you want to succeed! My mantra from the beginning has been that I will not promote something unless I have tried it. So, now that I have tried StudioPress and have had a good experience I feel comfortable recommending it to others.
My goal from the beginning has been to put out two new posts every week. During those two weeks that I was traveling I was only able to put one new post a week. In all reality it was a small victory to even post twice during that time.
I also changed my URL appearance just in the past week. It used to have the date of the post included in the URL but I never really liked that. It looks much cleaner without it. Unfortunately, when you change this setting it changes all of your URL’s immediately. This is good on the one hand because that it is ultimately what I wanted. However, I forgot to think about all of the links that I had all over the site and on social media that were now broken links. It wasn’t terrible correcting this but it was also somewhat time-consuming and not really productive. If you happen to come across any broken links anywhere please reach out to me. It would be much appreciated.
In the last month I have made some new connections in the blogger world, increased my page views, subscribers and all social media outlets. I also tried out some ads for a couple of weeks in the past month. It was a great learning experiment and I may try it again in the future but for now I’m not going to use ads.
The biggest step I took in terms of social media was to really get Pinterest up and running. Pinterest is such a powerful tool and I am very excited to really dig in and use this tool to increase traffic to my site. Shout out to Mike over at sidehustledad.com for pointing me in the right direction in regards to Pinterest. I have known for a while that I need to utilize Pinterest but have felt so lost. Mike helped me out and just released an awesome post on how to get started with Pinterest. I would highly recommend reading his post if you want to up your Pinterest game.
As I have learned more about Pinterest and how it works I have come to realize how dead Facebook is (at least in my opinion). I am so over Facebook. I will keep my page there but I am not going to waste much time in that area. Some bloggers don’t even have a Facebook account and they seem to be getting along just fine.
This is what you came for! Numbers from the past month and the percent increase month over month.
This is the last time that I will use site stats from WordPress for this type of report. I have implemented Google Analytics and will use that if I do any future blog reports.
You can see how bad my page views were the first two weeks of this period. It got significantly better and I am very happy that my traffic has started to become more stable.
This is one area that I am very happy about. Again, as I mentioned last month roughly half of these comments are mine as I try to reply to every single person that comments. Still, I am pleased that my audience seems to be engaged.
I have spent a lot of time on Twitter the last month. There was a period of about 7 days that I was gaining about 100 followers plus per day. I still plan to stay active on Twitter but feel pretty comfortable where I am. I want to spend much more time this month focusing on Pinterest.
Screw you Facebook. LOL! Maybe another day just not today.
I didn’t even mention Pinterest in my last blog report. I have high hopes for Pinterest.
Money made: Haha. I am getting there. My goal is to have my first affiliate sale in the month of March and get this wagon train a movin! (Toy Story reference for those of you that don’t have kids or have never seen the movie)
Most popular post: Far and away the most popular post in the past month was my first month in review. It had almost as many views as my homepage! Maybe that’s normal, I’m not real sure. I had a lot of comments on that post as well. It’s hard to ignore the numbers. Since everyone seemed to love that post so much I figured it would be wise to do a second month in review.

I had 7 posts in the past month which is really close to my target of two per week.
Here is a list of posts from the past month in order with my commentary:
Lessons learned – I kind of decided to do this post last-minute on a whim. I had no intentions of doing this but had read a few other bloggers first month in review and really enjoyed the transparency so I went for it. Still not sure how long I will continue to do these for but I guess if you guys like reading them then I will keep writing them!
6 crucial steps to getting out of debt – From a strictly personal finance point-of-view this is one of my favorite posts. This is a trademark kind of post in my opinion. Hopefully it can help some people on their journey to debt freedom. It was also the third most read post in the past month.
How to invest $100 – The second most read post in the past month. If you haven’t started investing for retirement get started today!
4 simple steps you can take today to leave a lasting legacy – I love my legacy series posts. They are more personal and something I am really passionate about. Full disclosure, they have not been my most popular posts by any means. I am going to keep doing them though.
15 or 30 year mortgage….or no mortgage at all – At the beginning of February we closed on our first home. It’s not our dream home by any means but we are satisfied with our purchase. It makes sense for us in the long run and it works for our family. The house is also well below our means which is a huge plus in my book.
How to start your own blog – I have been wanting to do this post for sometime and finally got around to it this month.
A day in bankruptcy court – My most recent post. This was quite the experience!
What will month three bring for Millennial Legacy? Who knows. I am enjoying this ride and love connecting with people from all walks of life. Let me know what you think in the comment section. How did I do? Anything you would like to see me write about in the future?
Thanks for reading!
